What does dental implant treatment involve?

Assessment

We first start with assessing your bone density. Having enough bone is key to the success of the implant. We take X-rays of your mouth to get a clearer picture of the condition of your jawbone. If we’re happy that the implant will have no issues, we arrange the appointment for the fitting.

If we feel that there isn’t enough bone, we can plan for bone grafting treatment to replenish the lost bone.

Placing the implant

For a single implant, the procedure takes under an hour. We always use local anaesthetic for any surgical procedure and make sure you’re comfortable throughout the procedure. The treatment involves creating a site for the implant to fit. The implant is then securely placed into the jaw. A special cap seals the top so the implant can heal and fuse.

It takes a few months for the implant to fully fuse. Once fused, impressions are taken and sent to the lab, where the new tooth is made. Once we receive the crown or bridge, we invite you back for the fitting. The end result is a new tooth that looks and works just like your other natural teeth.

Aftercare

Great oral hygiene and regular trips to the dentist will keep you on top of issues that could cause problems for your implants. Just like your natural teeth, implants can be affected by gum disease. Poor gum health, if left untreated, can cause the bone to become under attack and weakens the bond between bone and implant. Keeping your gums disease-free will keep your implants in top shape.
